Dubai Roads & Transit Authority Signage Management

Collection of all roadway and signage data for integration with signage management system as part of new addressing system for Dubai.

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Client: Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA)
Project Value: $US 5 million
Associated Consultants: Vela VKE, North-West Engineers, Blue Pages

Dubai has implemented a new street addressing system. Given the extent of growth of the city over the past few years, the Road & Transit Authority had a need for a comprehensive road sign management and addressing system to integrate with the already-procured Traffic Asset Management (TAM) system.

Second Harvest collected all existing roadway and sign structures throughout the Emirate of Dubai, for use in that system. The sign data was collected and uploaded into the TAM system on a regular basis in order to have a comprehensive and usable database at the disposal of the RTA. The system makes use of several existing sets of information including the comprehensive Dubai Traffic Control Devices Manual.

Second Harvest collected data on over 250 000 signs over 2 years, including GPS location data to <1m accuracy, photographs, sign type, size, structural condition, and content data.
